We work with innovation every day. Our team brings the specialist expertise, guidance and insight that our clients need to safeguard and protect their new ideas and technological concepts.
As one of the leading intellectual property (IP) law firms in the UK and Europe, Withers & Rogers LLP specialises in the protection and enforcement of a wide range of IP rights. These include patent protection for inventions, trade mark registration for brands and design rights for products. With our support, enterprising businesses can bring their ideas to market and maximise the commercial value in their IP.
Around 150 staff and more than 60 specialist experts work in our offices in London, Bristol, Leamington Spa and Sheffield. Their focus is on building strong partnerships with clients – visiting them regularly, getting to know their business, seeking to understand how best to protect the fruits of their developments and how to ensure that IP protection genuinely adds value to their organisation.
It's an inventive and inspiring environment that is as diverse as it is intellectually challenging. This is a place for ambitious and curious people who are passionate about the new. About making today's pioneering inventions tomorrow's life-changing reality.
Principal practice groups
Advanced Engineering group
Our team works across a hugely diverse span of engineering technologies. We are talking everything from medical devices, motorsport, oil and gas exploration, high performance and commercial vehicle transmission and braking systems to off-highway vehicles and sporting goods, agricultural engineering, building and construction equipment, aerospace technology and more.
The clients we work with and the places we work in are just as diverse too. You will find us in the US, Japan, the EU, Iceland, Malaysia and Australia, partnering global businesses, start ups and SMEs. We also work with a number of UK universities.
The majority of the group's members have first degrees in mechanical engineering, while some have degrees in materials science, aeronautical or civil engineering. What unites them is a genuine passion for engineering technology that goes well beyond the merely academic.
Electronics, Computing & Physics group
As the firm's largest practice group, we work with a broad range of international clients including telecommunications network and systems providers, integrated circuit design companies, medical equipment manufacturers, computer systems providers and aerospace and avionics manufacturers. Our team also supports the research departments and technology transfer companies of a number of British universities.
Group members' first degrees include physics, electronic and electrical engineering and electronic systems engineering, either solely or in combination with subjects like solid state electronics and computing.
Our goal is to establish strong and long-term relationships with every one of our clients. We do not want to be seen just as a service provider. We want to remove any perceived separation between us and our clients so that we are considered a part of their business. Clients appreciate this approach of course. But so do our group members, because it means that they can work closely with organisations at the leading-edge of technological developments. They can support the brightest minds in the industry to take that edge forward.
Life Sciences & Chemistry group
Our Life Sciences & Chemistry group is one of the largest in Europe, with a depth of expertise and experience across the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in academic research.
We work with a range of clients all over the world - from entrepreneurs, biotechnology and genetic research companies, pharmaceutical businesses and horticulturalists developing new plant varieties to medical device companies, veterinary supply organisations and chemical companies working in areas as diverse as fuel cells, liquid crystals and cosmetics. We also act for NHS Trusts, research departments and technology transfer companies of many British universities and research institutes.
Members of the group bring an equally wide range of academic and professional expertise. First degrees include biochemistry, biological sciences, chemistry, genetics, microbiology, pharmacy and veterinary science. Where possible, we like to visit our clients regularly, which takes our group members as far afield as the USA, Japan and China.
For inquiring and talented people who want to work with some of the sharpest minds on the planet, our Life Sciences & Chemistry group offers an inspiring environment in which to develop and grow.
Trade Mark group
Providing specialist advice and support to brand owners across a variety of industry sectors in the UK and internationally, we represent a range of clients from large multi-nationals to SMEs and start-ups.
Here in the UK, the sectors we work in include luxury fashion retail, insurance, jewellery, luxury leather goods, finance and defence. On a wider scale, our group members partner a number of US corporations in areas ranging from software and games manufacture, healthcare and medical devices to publishing.
With every one of these clients, our aim is to work closely with them and develop a strategic approach to the protection and enforcement of trade marks. We believe in listening to our clients and tailoring strategies that meet the individual needs of each organisation. As such, we look for people who are fascinated by the world of international business and are passionate about working at the cutting-edge of creative developments.
Your degree does not need to be in any specific subject, although a law degree is probably most immediately helpful, while modern languages will also be of benefit.
